Academic Therapy
“The lessons here are better and easier to understand compared to what I learn in school. My spelling and reading have improved a lot. Before coming here, I didn’t like to read at all and refused to borrow books from the library. But I learnt to read after three months of lessons here. Now reading is my favourite hobby! I can read up to one book a day.”
Teri Lim, a Primary Six student
“Today Ignatius is able to speak so well, has a good grasp of the vocabulary and is able to read storey books and encyclopedias on his own without help. Now that he can read so well I have stopped his English lessons and enrolled him for Mathematics instead. He is really benefitting from these lessons and I am very happy with the results and feel that my money is really well spent. I will not hesitate to recommend any child who needs help to Kimberly and Ben as they have real passion for teaching and helping children with special needs.”
Janice Quek, mother of Ignatius
“I started therapy in Secondary One after my teacher told my mother that I am dyslexic. After some time, my English improved a lot. I am able to spell better and I learnt about root words, prefixes and suffixes. My vocabulary has improved and I can write better compositions in school.”
Jared Aw, a Secondary Three student
“I started coming to the centre last year (2008) when my mother realized that I needed help with my school work. I have learnt many sounds, finger spelling, syllabication and spelling rules which really helped me with my spelling in school. Now I am doing a lot of comprehension and writing exercises. Last week, I learnt about alliteration!”
Madeline Maeloa, a Grade Five student from an international school
"The MSL Centre has taught me many English skills like phonics and writing. After coming for lessons here, my English grade has improved from a C6 to B4. The teachers here are friendly and the centre has a very good learning environment."
Ma Wai Cheung, a Secondary Four student
“By learning about sounds and blends, I can now read better. In the last year, I think my school results have improved a lot especially in English, Social Studies and Chinese. Now I always score full marks in my spelling tests!
Lee Yun Wei, a Primary Five student
“Ethan started at MSL at Primary 4, after being taught previously by five different tutors. He struggled with Math and English and could not do any homework independently. After six months at MSL, his attitude changed and he was willing to attempt school work on his own. We were also pleasantly surprised that Ethan would go to MSL willingly, unlike sessions with his previous tutors. We were pleased with his improvement over time."
Lynette Wong, Mother of Ethan Wong
“I feel that my studies have improved, especially English, even though I have only been to this centre for a month... I get better marks now. In the past, my average score was always 60 plus marks but now I can score 70 plus points. I hope to do even better during my PSLE!”
Jordan Seow, a Primary Six student who started coming for academic therapy sessions in mid-March 2007. At point of interview, he has had therapy for 5 weeks.
“Ms. Kimberly Loong has been providing guidance to our son, Harrold, for the last three years (January 2004 to February 2007) to help him overcome his reading disability. Within six months of working with Harrold, we could see improvement in his spelling, phonics and reading abilities. Not only did his spelling improve, he also gained tremendous confidence in his overall academic abilities, specifically in English language.
With Kimberly's dedicated help, Harrold experienced his first success of passing his English Language semestral exams, a feat he had never achieved before. Since then he has gone on to attain a Grade 2 for his Foundation English Language exam in his PSLE in 2005. Harrold is now able to read words he could only guess at before and has strategies to decode unknown words. We are happy that he is now able to drive through words with greater ease. We are thankful to Kimberly for helping Harrold to unlock the secrets of sound-symbol relationship, thus allowing comprehension to become the focus.”

“A clinical psychologist diagnosed my son to have Specific Language Impairment in Aug 2006. Then, he was in Primary 5 and struggling to cope with lessons and examinations in school. His morale and self-confidence were affected and he began to lose interest in studies. Tuition was a chore. He is due to take his PSLE in 2007 and my wife and I wondered how we could help him given the short period of time.
Subsequently, the psychologist referred him to Educational Therapist, Benny Teo for intervention. Benny decided to take him under his wings. My son has lessons with Benny twice weekly. Benny has not only a sound knowledge on the application of various OG strategies but is also a great motivator. Gradually, my son is finding learning interesting. He is slowly gaining confidence in himself. He looks forward to his lessons with Benny as he finds the lessons motivating and purposeful. His reading, spelling and pronunciation have improved. He does his schoolwork diligently without fail. My son is now working hard towards his PSLE.”

“My daughter was under a loving teacher, Jeraldine, who not only developed my daughter’s confidence and raised her self-esteem but also boosted her English language proficiency in a short span of 10 months. My aunt who works as an English Head of Department in a local institution noticed the great improvement in my daughter’s diction.”
