About Dyslexia
What are the needs of dyslexic learners?

Dyslexic learners think and learn differently.  Hence traditional instructional programmes are usually not appropriate for them.  People with dyslexia do not process language the same way others do; they specifically need instruction that is clear, organized, and multi-sensory.

So although dyslexia is a neurological based learning disorder, the treatment is educational.  Dyslexic learners require multi-sensory teaching that includes seeing, hearing, doing, and feeling.

Help for the dyslexic, of whatever age, can only start when his difficulties have been noticed, analyzed and identified.  It is important that this takes place as early as possible.  Early intervention means that there is less “catching-up” to do. The individual’s personality is not damaged by high levels of frustration and the younger the student, the higher the likelihood of his eagerness to learn.

However while early intervention is highly desirable, it is never too late to learn.  Using the structured, multi-sensory, language-based methodology like Orton-Gillingham Approach, successful results have followed coaching at any age, even in adults.
